The focus this month is on Sound and is proudly sponsored by Internode. Tyson Hopprich, aka DJ TR!P, is an award winning producer, composer & performer of electronic music based in Adelaide. Over the past 10 years he has built an impressive repertoire of live compositions both for his club sets as well as for a variety of high profile contemporary theatre & dance productions. He will discuss his composition methods for scoring for film, dance, theatre & live performance using obsolete technology & his obsession with video game culture. DJ TR!P’s melancholy yet beautiful, gritty & grimy signature palette are due to his unique use of obsolete 8-bit computers & video game consoles & his extensive treatment of audio from numerous session musicians. His genre & style shifts effortlessly with each project & collaboration. His music has been released on CD, Vinyl & Mini CD independently & on various independent labels in Australia & overseas. As a Live Performing Act & DJ he has played at a variety of venues, festivals & events including The Tank [New York], Sundown & Super Deluxe [Tokyo], Game On [Australian Tour] [Video Game Exhibition from the Barbican Art Gallery], The Famous Spielgeltent, Ten Days On The Island Festival, Mona Foma Festival, Adelaide Festival, Big Day Out, and the list goes on and on…. He has also performed along side such acts as Kraftwerk, DJ Krush, John Foxx [of Ultra Vox], Nick Cave, Horace Andy [of Massive Attack], Fuck Buttons, Filastine, James Blood Ulmer, Brian Ritchie [of Violent Femmes], The Saints and many, many more. As a soundtrack composer he has written for companies including the ABC, State Theatre of South Australia, Vitalstatistix, The Australian Choreographic Centre, Brink Productions, Australian Dance Theatre [Ignition Series], Windmill, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Tasdance, Closer Productions, Restless Dance Theatre, Urban Myth & Kurruru Indigenous Youth Performing Arts. In ’07 &’06 DJ TR!P had the honor of collaborating with Indigenous Elder Auntie Josie for the Adelaide Fringe Festival’s Opening Night Kuarna welcome. In ‘06 he created a Music Score for the Federation Square’s Dream Seed live installation in Melbourne on News Years Eve. In ‘05 The New Pollutants premiered their live re-score to Fritz Lang’s Metropolis at the Adelaide Film Festival, next touring it to Perth’s Revelations Film Festival & Melbourne’s Next Wave Festival at ACMI. He had a strong relationship with choreographer Tanja Liedtke, composing for many projects including Enter Twilight [Tasdance], Award winning Twelfth Floor [Germany ’09, UK ’09 & Australia ‘06] & Construct [Israel ’09, Canada ’09, Australia ’09, UK ‘07 & the Australian Premiere at the Sydney Festival at the Sydney Opera House ‘08]. Up & coming projects include scores for Windmill’s production of Ted Prior’s ‘Grug’, Restless Dance Theatre’s ‘Beauty’ & Closer Production’s documentary ‘Life In Movement’ about Tanja Liedtke & her life as dancer & choreographer. Also as part of the The New Pollutants he is performing a live re-score to Fritz Lang’s iconic silent film ‘Metropolis’ at the Sydney Opera House in May. Martyn Zub, Sound Engineer from Oasis Post and Joseph Cassar, Producer from Kojo Interactive, will be talking about sound foley and production for digital media including the SA Lotto iPhone app that Kojo Interactive recently launched, and Beautiful, a feature film created entirely within the Kojo Group.
