MEGA invite you to Come and join us on Monday 20th September, 2010 from 6pm to 8pm at The Brunswick Hotel, 207 Gilbert St, Adelaide SA 5000. Dr. Paul Gardner-Stephen of shoe-phone fame will present his most recent work which has culminated in the creation of mobile telephones that can work without coverage, but let you keep your existing telephone number. Incredibly, it uses existing off-the-shelf handsets, and can be used to deploy a mobile telephone network in minutes using hundreds rather than millions of dollars of equipment. This revolutionary technology, developed and tested here in South Australia, has the potential to revolutionise emergency and disaster response the world over, as well as the provision of affordable telecommunications and internet access to the poorest and most vulnerable two billion of the world. The relevance of this technology to rural and remote Australia has been heightened by the recent federal election which promises more focus on exactly this kind of capability. Congratulations are also in order… Dr Paul recently appeared on the ABC’s New Inventors show, and managed to win the round he was in! Well done to Dr Paul and the Serval Project Team. For further information, visit servalproject.org It should be a great evening so please come along and remember to bring your business cards. Numbers are limited so please RSVP to Leonie O’Dea at rsvp@mobilemondayadelaide.net
